Open Call - Voice and imaginary landscapes

A workshop hosted by Antonina Nowacka

Voice and imaginary landscapes – Open Call

In this special workshop led by Polish composer and vocal artist Antonina Nowacka, we will explore the voice as a tool of musical expression inspired by our inner landscapes and imaginary narratives. We want to investigate the sonic possibilities of this medium through individual and group exercises in visualization, improvisation, composing, and translating a composition into vocal pieces. There will also be some elements of meditation and deep listening practices.

Supported by: Polnisches Institut Wien

About the Host

Antonina Nowacka

By combining trans-cultural, acrobatic vocal techniques with experimentation in sound synthesis, interdisciplinary Polish vocalist and composer Antonina Nowacka creates subtle and minimalistic soundscapes that take you on imaginative journeys inspired by nature, space, dreams, and otherworldly happenings. Through years of sonic explorations in natural environments and studies of various music traditions and voice peculiarities, she has developed a unique, deeply relaxing, and hypnotic voice quality reminiscent of a theremin. In describing her distinctive voice and way of singing, British opinion-making magazine The Quietus has stated: “She opens a small portal to a world not quite the same as this one.”
